The Government of Spain has published a new strategy of energy, by which the country should switch to 70% of electricity supply from renewable sources by 2030. And by 2050, Spain plans to get all the power from renewable sources such as wind, solar power through the use of solar panel batteries, etc.

When it comes to renewable energy in Spain, as of 2016, Spain received 23% of electricity from renewable sources. On the second position there is nuclear power (more than 20%). To eliminate some ordinary sources of energy from the energy sector, Spain plans to halt the issuance of licenses for exploration alternative sources, to ban fracking and to abandon new fossil fuel subsidies. At least 20% of the national budget is to be allocated for activities related to climate.

Spanish plans exceed even the general EU norms. Spanish government plan to be 100% reliant on renewable power by 2050. At least 20% of the national budget of the country is planned to be allocated to the climatic sphere. Recall, the State Audit service published data of Financial audit of the implementation of budget programs in the Ministry of Ecology and Natural resources of Ukraine for the period from 01.01.2015 to 31.12.2017. She identified billions of violations in the Ministry of Ecology.

Besides, after the signing of the Treaty between the Government and trade unions, Spain announced the closure of all coal mines owned by private companies until the end of this year. Under the terms of the agreement, in the regions, whose economy is focused on coal mining, in the next ten years invest 285 million euro.

Also, the ban on the sale of diesel and gasoline cars should be introduced from 2040 of the year. Spain is going to completely get rid of vehicles running on gasoline and diesel, by 2050, while creating conditions for the development of consumer demand for electric cars. At least 20% of the national budget is planned to be allocated for activities in the area of climate. The bill will be submitted to the Spanish Parliament already before the end of the year.

In general, in Spain, the share of res in electricity generation has already reached 46%. When it comes to the UK as an example of a renewable energy, in 2017, the United Kingdom has halved its carbon footprint in the electricity sector to provide the fourth cleanest energy system in Europe and the seventh in the world.

— In June, nuclear, wind & solar plants generated a higher %age of the country’s energy than gas & coal combined.

— In April, the United Kingdom since the Industrial Revolution, has not used coal energy for 24 hours.

The Government is striving to phase out coal by 2025 as part of its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In some areas of the use of renewable energy, Spain has significant scientific results, corresponding to the world level. Vast potential possibilities of using these energy sources in solving energy and environmental problems shortly are revealed.

Spain should remove legislative obstacles to its energy consumption from renewable sources and create a system of accounting for energy supplied to the energy system by consumers operating photovoltaic plants. While in many countries all over Europe such schemes have been working for a long time, there is still a discussion of this issue in Spain.
